About Us

The Barrington Area Democratic Organization, under the leadership of Barrington Township Committeeman Bob Steffen, is here to support our shared values of inclusivity, democracy, social justice, and economic stability by gathering together the many Democratic and independent voters in our township to work together to elect and support candidates who share our values.

Barrington Township has been increasingly 'purple' and YOU can help us turn it solid blue!  Come and join us!

What is a Township?

A township is a unit of local government, usually a subdivision of a county.   Cook County, Illinois contains 29 townships.  Barrington Township is in the far northwest corner of the county.

Townships are organized political entities.  Each county is headed by a Township Committeeman/Committeewoman, an elected position.  The Township may appoint a Board of Directors.  Each township also contains precincts (see our Precinct section).

Current Barrington Township Board:

What is a Precinct?

Think of a precinct as a neighborhood.  It is a political subdivision of a township.

Each precinct should have a 'Precinct Captain', an official party role, which in Cook County is appointed.  Think of a precinct captain as a Neighborhood Team Leader.

In Barrington Township there are 11 precincts.  We have unofficially given them neighborhood names to make them more relatable:
